Musket Ridge Sponsors Launch of Rock 'N Renew Foundation Ecology Education Program at Valley Elementary School on Thursday, May 5, 2011
Musket Ridge Connects Their Sustainability Efforts to Educational Program with Students as Part of School’s Earth Day Celebration
Myersville, Maryland — May 3, 2011 — Musket Ridge, which recently became the first golf course and wedding venue in the Eastern half of the United States and possibly the entire country to launch a zero waste food initiative for its award-winning golf course, restaurant and Catoctin Hall wedding and banquet facility, is now connecting that initiative to local school children through its partnership with the Rock ‘n Renew Foundation and its sponsorship of an ecology education program at Valley Elementary School. As the premier wedding venue in the area, Musket Ridge produces approximately 4,000 pounds of food waste per year, which the club is now saving from going into a landfill through their zero food waste program.
Through this sponsorship, Valley Elementary School will receive a native plant and vegetable garden built by Rock ‘n Renew that mirrors the one built at Musket Ridge and further establishes the partnership between Musket Ridge and the community.
Jonny Dubowsky, musician and founder of Rock ‘n Renew Foundation and Musket Ridge Executive Chef Kyle Roberson will speak to pre-K to 5th grade students in two morning assemblies at Valley Elementary School on Thursday, May 5th, 2011. They will also participate in hands-on outdoor ecology activities as part of the school’s Earth Day celebration.
According to Damon DeVito, managing director and a founder of Affinity Management (www.affinitymanagement.com) in Charlottesville, Virginia, which manages Musket Ridge, “Connecting the sustainability efforts that we have initiated at Musket Ridge to local school children is a vital part of our commitment to the community and to the environment. By being a positive role model and example for students, we can help teach them at a young age about being good stewards of the environment.”
Musket Ridge has been ranked a top ten course in the state by Golfweek Magazine for the past six years and named Best Golf Course in Frederick Magazine’s Best of Frederick 2009 Awards. Catoctin Hall at Musket Ridge has been called “Maryland’s Best New Event Venue.” For more information about Musket Ridge Golf Club, please visit www.musketridge.com or call 301-293-9930.
